The National Honors Society (NHS) is the nation's premiere organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. There are four main purposes that guide NHS. Those purposes are to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character. NHS service recognizes students who have shown excellency in these areas and these characteristics have been very important to the Notional Honors Society since its beginning in 1921.
