As part of the UHS Career Talk Series, students at Umatilla High School had the opportunity to hear directly from dedicated officers of the Umatilla Police Department and the Mount Dora Police Department today.

Officers spoke with our students about local career opportunities in law enforcement, what prospective officers can expect in terms of education and training, and the many ways they can serve and protect their own communities. From academy preparation to daily responsibilities on the job, students gained valuable insight into what it takes to pursue a career in public safety.

We are incredibly grateful to both departments for taking the time to invest in our students, share their experiences, and highlight pathways for those interested in making a difference right here at home. Your partnership helps inspire the next generation of leaders and community servants!

📣 Important Information About Upcoming Fine Reminders

As we prepare to send out fine reminders, some families may receive an email notification indicating that a new item has been added to the system. Please note: This message does NOT necessarily mean your student owes a fine. The email simply lets you know that an item has been activated in our system and is available to review. We strongly encourage seniors to stop by the Bulldog Student Union to check on any outstanding fines. Taking care of these items as soon as possible will help ensure they are cleared to participate in graduation ceremonies.

If you have questions, feel free to contact Mr. Stokes, StokesR@lake.k12.fl.us with questions.

Dating violence is more common than you may think, especially among teens and young adults. In fact, 1 in 3 U.S. teens will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone they’re in a relationship with before becoming adults, according to loveisrespect.org. Each February, young adults and their loved ones nationwide raise awareness about teen dating violence through Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM). This annual, month-long effort focuses on advocacy and education to stop dating abuse before it starts.
