Thank you, Lake Technical College, for welcoming 35 students and faculty from South Lake and Umatilla high schools for a first-ever field trip focused on manufacturing and engineering career pathways! The experience introduced our students—already enrolled in related high school coursework—to advanced training options available through Lake Technical College’s Advanced Manufacturing & Production Technology and CNC Production Specialist programs. months and is designed to build directly on the foundational skills students are developing in high school. Purple was chosen because it is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military. The Umatilla High School JROTC Bulldog Battalion Drill Team led by Sergeant First Class Greg Smith, recently showcased their precision and discipline at the State Drill Meet on 11 April 2026 at Ridge Community High School in Davenport, FL. The cadets demonstrated exceptional teamwork, military bearing, and attention to detail, proving their dedication to excellence. Their hard work and countless hours of practice paid off as they conducted themselves through this meet. The cadet’s achievement goes to show their commitment, skills, leadership, and potential.

This year, we invite you to “Purple Up!” on April 15, 2026, by wearing purple as a visible way to show support and thank military children. Purple was chosen because it is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military. It is a combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine Corps red, Space Force blue and Navy blue. Students and staff in schools across Florida are encouraged to participate in this celebration of the courage of military families and to honor their hard work.

The Florida FFA Association recently selected twelve students as candidates for state FFA office. Thirty FFA members from throughout the state took part in the 2026 State Officer Screening Process. These student members were challenged with an intense interview process, which included an individual interview, individual problem-solving activity, State Degree interview, agricultural knowledge Interview, and a conversational exercise. The 2026-2027 State FFA Officer Team will be announced during at the 98th Florida FFA State Convention and Expo.

On Thursday, April 2, 2026, Umatilla, FFA members competed at the Florida FFA ornamental horticulture District contest. Please congratulate Lynzee Bowling and Drew Parkinson for placing first in the consumer used category in advancing to the state finals at the University of Florida on April 23.

On Saturday March 28, 2026 The Umatilla FFA horse evaluation team competed at the Florida FFA State Finals held at the University of Florida. Umatilla FFA finished 5th in the state. Please congratulate Drew Parkinson, Kate Tyree, Macyn Rotarius, and Megan Stephenson
